2 years into blogging, bring on the 3rd. Blog for you, not for others

I don’t blog for attention, even though I love to see my views go up through out the day/week/month.

I don’t blog for likes or comments, even though I do love it and get excited when I get likes and comments.

All of these above are extras bonuses.

The reason I blog, well the main reason, is just a simple thing.

I love to tell a story.

You see the blogosphere is huge these days, you have hundreds of millions people round the world blogging, compared to like 50 over 10 years ago.

You have bloggers who consentrate on one thing, they have one main audience.

You have seasoned bloggers who have been doing it for years, you have newbies (like myself, yeah I’ve only just started my 3rd year of blogging) who last a month or 6 months maybe even a year or 2, and give up because they either get bored or don’t get the reaction they were expecting.

The ones who only target one type of audience have a limited outcome or tunnel vision. You also get bloggers who talk about how to blog or teach you ways to succeed.

Fair play to everyone who blogs, it isn’t easy, and it’s damn hard to stand out. So you can see why many give up because their views are low.

Personally I’ve had views in the high 100s and the low 10s, when I post a blog I can get on average 30-50 views, then nothing until I post again.

I came into blogging not expecting much, and over the 2 years so far, I’ve loved seeing my audience grow, and the likes and comments make me feel awesome. Yeah I don’t get many but I don’t mind. As long as my stories get read.

I’m not everyones cup of tea, but I do what I do, I blog what I blog.

IT IS WHAT IT IS.

Obviously I would love more people to take an interest in what I type, but I don’t cry if I get 0 views a day.

I blog because I love blogging, I have some proper dedicated viewers, and some that come and go as they please, and that’s their prerogative, I can’t force people to come, I can’t force people to stay or read every blog.

I just appreciate the views, likes and comments I get.

I’ve seen bloggers give up, I’ve seen new bloggers start up, I’ve even encouraged some new people to blog, and it awesome knowing I’ve helped someone find a new passion.

I’m not afraid of the competition, because there is none. Every blogger is different, we all have our own thing and own style, there is no wrong or right way to blog.

I blog about anything on my mind at the time, I do personal, work, inspirational, funny, sad, emotional. I just enjoy writing, I never used to be good at it because my mind was closed. As I’ve grown up my mind has become open, all my experiences are personal and real, and I think worthy of making a record of it. If others don’t like it then so be it, this is my personal corner of the internet, my own space in the blogosphere.

I write what I want, when I want, it helps me clear my mind, it helps me get things out, it helps me stop going crazy, it stops me holding everything in and having another long stay in depressionville.

To say I’ve found a new passion is an understatement, I’ve found a life source, writing isn’t just tapping on some keys on a screen or laptop, it is an expression. My blogs are just me in the raw, no masks, no hidden agendas.

Just pure love of writing.

To any new bloggers, or any bloggers struggling just go for it. Don’t hold back, just type away without a care in the world, don’t worry about views or followers or even likes and comments.

If people love it they will come, it’s not about how good of a writer you are, if you put your neck out and start a blog like I did, it’ll help you, or someone else, it may even save your life to just get your thoughts out there, shit it may even save someone elses life.

Just go for it.

I started 2 years ago, I now have 417 followers, through wordpress, email sign ups and social media followers (Facebook and Twitter) and even more that haven’t even pressed that follow/subscribe button.

I’ve had nearly 10,000 views, it may not seem like a lot for 2 years worth of work but thats nearly 10,000 potention smiles, 10,000 potential lives saved because they realise they aren’t alome in this world, I know for a fact it’s saved 1 life.

MINE.

I may talk a lot of shit a lot of the time, but people connect to that, people read it, I make people smile, I’ve been told I inspire people.

Never give up because you don’t reach your expectaions, never give up because your not as popular or successful as other bloggers, just do what you do, your audience will grow in time.

Just open your mind and don’t be afraid to publish that blog, don’t be afraid to show your views, don’t be afraid to show the real you.

Your time will come, just keep going.

      • That is awesome. Congrats on writing your book. That has been in the back of my mind for a year now. I honestly don’t know where to start or if anyone would enjoy it .lol! So like I said, changing my writing around will be who I am more. And sadly, if people don’t like it, don’t read it. Thank you. I may take you up on that. And once again so happy you are doing so well.☺️

      • If you wanted you could have a quick peek at mine see if it’ll help, my book is still in the early stages but it may help a little ….. and yeah anytime just let me know what I can do to help and I’ll give it.
Also you should put yourself into your writing a bit, sometimes a lot, it makes a big difference on how you write and sometimes even how long your blog will be too, some of my longest blogs are about my experiences and struggles and it also helps me get the shit out of my head haha.

  1. Thanks a lot for this. It gives me hope that one day I can get to this level of views. It’s funny because about a year or two back I was hearing from people that “blogging is dead”. I read your post and what you say is as true as ever: there are more people blogging now than ever before.
So I don’t plan on throwing in the towel. I think there’s much more to gain from blogging and I’m going to continue to do so. Plus, it’s such a freeing feeling knowing that you can go and post about whatever you want, whenever you want.
Much respect for getting a nice following through the WordPress reader section. Multiple 3 figure followers is definitely a nice achievement in my opinion. Plus, I find it amazing that you were able to build an audience from social media. It shows that you know what you’re doing.
    Thanks a lot for this!

    • Thank you dude, to be honest I just go with the flow, and I blog from the heart, I also don’t go too formal and I hope that shows in my blogs.
I like to add a bit of a smile and a laugh that usually helps a lot, and I’ve heard “blogging is dead” many many times, I even thought about vlogging on YouTube and stuff but with my stammer, that would prove a bit difficult, haha.
I agree with the freeing feeling, it feels so good to get things out of my head and onto paper (or screen in this matter).
It is very tough to be a successful blogger, but if you do it to succeed you set yourself up for failure, that’s why I take it as it comes, if I succeed then it’s a bonus, the way I look at it is, if only 1 person reads my blog, then that’s success, if my words can save a life (which I’ve been told many of my blogs have saved someone’s life here and there), or cheers just one person up, just makes the day of 1 person (which again I’ve been told they have) then I’ve succeeded, and that’s such an amazing addictive feeling, better than drugs.
Keep up the awesome work dude, you will get there, I’m not overly successful, I don’t have 1000s or millions of followers, but the ones I do have make me feel amazing.
