Monday Music, week 1.

Something new for 2026

Lately, I’ve been realising how quickly weeks slip past without ever really starting. Monday arrives, the noise kicks in, and suddenly you’re already behind before you’ve had a chance to settle into yourself.

Monday Music is my way of slowing that moment down.

Each week, I’ll share one song I’m sitting with as the week begins. Sometimes it’ll be something nostalgic, sometimes something new, sometimes it’ll be artists you have never heard of, sometimes a track I’ve carried with me for years without really knowing why. It’s not about trends or releases. It’s about how a song fits into a moment.

I’ve been craving a bit more structure lately. Not the rigid kind, just something steady. Something I can return to each week before everything else starts pulling at my attention, so I’m doing this to build a bit of structure into my life. Something consistent I can concentrate on before the week properly starts. A small ritual. A few minutes set aside to listen, reflect, and ease into whatever’s coming next.

As this grows, it won’t just be my picks. I want this to turn into a shared space, with songs suggested by you added along the way. Music we’re all starting our weeks with, for different reasons, at different points in our lives.

There’s no right way to listen to this. No expectation to feel anything in particular. Just a song, once a week, to keep you company at the beginning of it all.

The song

By Ren and Chinchilla.
I chose this song because it feels like drifting. Like moving through life slightly disconnected, doing what you need to do while part of you feels faded out. The idea of being a chalk outline really stuck with me. Present, but not fully here. Like you’ve already been erased, even though you’re still standing.

There have been times when that feeling has been uncomfortably familiar. And instead of pushing against it, this song sits with it. It doesn’t pretend things are fine, but it doesn’t let you disappear either. Somehow, it reminds me that I’m more than the version of myself my thoughts try to shrink me into.

The world keeps going regardless. And if it’s going to keep moving, you may as well keep moving with it. This song helps me remember that.

Why I chose it

To me, this song feels like floating through life as a shadow. Like you’re already gone, but still turning up, still going through the motions because that’s what you’re supposed to do. Existing, but slightly erased around the edges.

There have been times when I’ve felt exactly like that. Not in a dramatic way. Just quiet. Numb. Moving through days on autopilot, feeling smaller than the world around me.

What I love about this song is that it doesn’t rush to fix that feeling. It lets it exist. And somehow, in doing that, it pulls me back from the brink. It reminds me that I’m more than the version of myself my head sometimes tries to convince me I am.

The world keeps moving whether you show up fully or not. And weirdly, that thought can be grounding. If everything keeps going anyway, you might as well keep going with it. Keep listening. Keep feeling. Keep finding small things that tether you back to yourself.

One detail that stays with me

The way their voices sit together. There’s no competition, no need to overpower. It feels like two people standing in the same space, acknowledging the same feeling, without trying to escape it too quickly. That image of a chalk outline lingers long after the song ends. Like a reminder of how easy it is to fade, and how important it is not to.

This is the kind of song I sit with on a Monday morning. Headphones on. No distractions. Just a few minutes to remind myself I’m still here.
